Creative Vision Casting 2024

a special 90-minute workshop and strategy session to envision and implement a year of creative clarity, confidence, and courage

Special for FlashNano Participants: 50% off until December 31!

Most of us are so busy, but we never seem to accomplish the things that matter most. The book stays unwritten. The stories remain unpublished. The art remains uncreated. The good idea stays in our head. We think if we had a different life, more money, more time it would be different. Or we imagine when we retire, the kids grow up, etc., then we will finally move towards our own vision.

Which means we spend our lives waiting for our lives to begin. The struggle is real.

I get it. I’ve written 10 books over the last 15 years while working two jobs and raising two children. I felt like I was always fighting for my creative time–I wrote entire books after the kids were in bed; I wrote the final version of Going Short on the train commute back and forth to my university job at CU Boulder. But in the process I learned how to get both clear and realistic about my creative goals and how to strategize my life in a way that aligned with my core values…so that I could actually get things done.

For 10 years I have regularly taken myself through a process of revisiting and re-orienting–not towards blatant productivity, but towards my deepest creative visions. Each time I do this process I learn how to prioritize the creative work and get clear about my values so I don’t spend my life staying busy but not moving the needle on what really matters.

For the first time ever I’ve decided to share this process with my creative community.

In this 90-minute live strategy session, we will brainstorm and identify our creative priorities for 2024 (and beyond), decide how and why to choose, and map out a realistic and empowering plan to move forward. This is NOT a one-size-fits-all-strategy but a living conversation and method of interrogating ourselves and revisiting our creative goals in order to reorient toward what we value most.

So consider this a personal invitation to envision the new year together. We will work, yes, but the work will be fun–creativity is our job after all! So let’s gather for 90 minutes this January and begin 2024 with more creative confidence, clarity, courage, and camaraderie.

See you in January!

FLASHNANO Frequently Asked Questions

What is flash fiction?
Flash fictions are complete, stand-alone stories in under 1,000 words.

Do we submit them somewhere?
There is no official submitting, though I will re-open the private Facebook Group where people like to share and keep each other’s spirits up. But many people participate without ever sharing anything and that’s also great.

Do you critique them?
No. That would go against the messy, creative, generative spirit of FlashNano. But I will offer future opportunities to work with me throughout the month and beyond including workshops, memberships, and retreats.

If I share them are they considered published?
Since the Facebook group is private it will not count as “published” later. Some people like to publish on their own blogs but that may count as “published” to a magazine.

What if I miss a day?
If you miss a day then write two the next day! This challenge is really between you and your god, so no one else is counting.

I don’t live in the U.S. When should I expect the prompts to post?
I post them around 7:00 am MST (in the U.S.), give or take an hour. So over in Europe and Australia you’ll be getting them in the afternoon/evening.

Do I have to use the prompts?
Absolutely not. Write 30 stories in November by any means necessary!

Do I have to write flash fiction?
Nope. It began as a flash fiction event, but over the last 12 years I’ve seen people approach the month in many ways, from a haiku a day to even threading the daily flashes into a flash novel! New material is always a win!
